I don't know if you can help me with this, but I would appreciate any input. For the last 6 weeks, my 10 year old lab has been howling in her sleep at least once or twice a week. She has never done this before and rarely howls when awake. Nothing in our or her life or environment has changed. Is this nothing to worry about or should I take her to see someone?

Hi,
Dogs DO dream, and like people, some 'talk' in their sleep. One of mine 'chuckles' in her sleep on occassion; I'm sure you've seen your dog's feet twitching like she's running while sleeping, as well.
It's nothing to worry about, but you may want to take note: do these occassions happen on days where she's had a lot going on? Verbal/physical signs of dreaming occur more often with some dogs after a super-busy or stressful day.

Thanks, Jo!
Nala is a happy and active labrador. She's always been a busy sleeper with the twitching, but in the last ten years, she's never uttered a noise. I'll keep a note of her days' activities and see if anything correlates.
Thanks again!Posted: 2007-09-24 18:54:26 #
